Basketball Recap: Burrell Comes Up Short

Burrell saw some tournament action on Monday. They fell 53-43 to the St. Mary's Lancers. While losing is never fun, the Bucs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 453rd in Pennsylvania, while the Lancers are ranked 168th in New York).

Will Szablewski continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for St. Mary's, going 10-for-13 en route to 24 points in addition to eight boards and three blocks. Szablewski's big performance that afternoon made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Blake Kempa, who shot 45% from the field on his way to 12 points.

Burrell has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-6 record this season. As for St. Mary's, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season.

Burrell wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 42-40 loss against Drew Charter on the 23rd. As for St. Mary's, they have also already played their next game, a 76-46 defeat against Lincoln Park Performing Arts on the 23rd.
