Basketball Recap: Maximus Von Ancken's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Strawberry Crest over Wharton

Strawberry Crest lost against Wharton back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Strawberry Crest Chargers took a 49-32 bruising from the Wharton Wildcats. While losing is never fun, the Chargers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 336th, while the Wildcats are ranked 81st).

Strawberry Crest's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Maximus Von Ancken, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 13 rebounds. With that strong performance, Von Ancken is now averaging an impressive 8.1 boards per game. Another player making a difference was Cameron Crowe, who posted 11 points.

Wharton found their leader in sophomore Tysen Jefferson, who went 6 of 11 on his way to 18 points and three steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Jefferson has scored at least a third of Wharton's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayson Montgomery, who put up 12 points.

Strawberry Crest has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-3 record this season. As for Wharton, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 6-2.

Strawberry Crest didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 67-31 victory against Jefferson on the 11th. As for Wharton, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 62-43 win against East Bay on the 11th.
