Basketball Recap: Daylan Haywood Key Part of a Team Effort in Bulldogs Win

Natchez won the last time they faced Port Gibson and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Natchez Bulldogs took down the Port Gibson Blue Waves 58-42. Given the Bulldogs' advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 102nd, while the Blue Waves are ranked 221st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Natchez's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Daylan Haywood, who went 8 of 20 on his way to 24 points and three steals. The contest was Haywood's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of James King Jr, who went 9 of 17 on his way to 18 points and four steals.

Natchez is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.3 points per game. As for Port Gibson, their loss dropped their record down to 2-9.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Natchez will venture away from home to challenge Franklin County at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Natchez is facing Franklin County at the right time seeing as Franklin County is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Port Gibson, they will head out to face off against Warren Central at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
