Basketball Game Preview: Pulaski County Cougars vs. Salem Spartans

The Pulaski County Cougars will head out to square off against the Salem Spartans at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Pulaski County's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last three games.

Pulaski County is headed into the contest having just posted their biggest win since December 18, 2024 on Friday. They claimed a resounding 67-35 victory over Christiansburg. The Cougars have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven matches by 20 points or more this season.

Meanwhile, Salem was just a bucket shy of victory on Friday and fell 36-35 to Patrick Henry. The game marked the Spartans' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Pulaski County will have to contain Gabby Crawley as she made an impact in Salem's last game. She posted eight points along with six assists and four steals. Crawley is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last six games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Charli Wynn, who put up 11 points.

Even though they lost, Salem smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in eight consecutive matches.

Pulaski County has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten games, which provided a nice bump to their 17-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.9 points over those games. As for Salem, their loss was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 9-1 and their overall record down to 19-2.

Pulaski County lost to Salem on the road by a decisive 58-40 margin in their previous matchup back in January. Can Pulaski County avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
