Basketball Recap: Fort Yukon Eagles vs. Tok Wolverines
Fort Yukon was handed a heart-breaking two-point loss in their last contest, but they sure didn't let that happen against Tok on Friday. The Fort Yukon Eagles breezed by the Tok Wolverines to the tune of 71-40. This was payback for the Eagles, who suffered a 76-61 defeat the last time these two teams met.
Fort Yukon found their leader in sophomore Riley Strom, who posted 31 points. Ben Carroll was another key player, putting up 13 points.
Several Wolverines players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Chairo Espinosa, who had 15 points along with six rebounds and five steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Marvin Captain, who almost dropped a double-double on 19 points and nine rebounds.
With the victory, Fort Yukon broke their four-game losing streak and moved their record to 1-1. As for Tok, their loss dropped their record down to 0-2.
Fort Yukon wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 66-55 defeat against Minto on the 4th. As for Tok, they will square off against Cordova on Friday. Tok is facing Cordova at the right time seeing as Cordova is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
