Softball Recap: Colusa Comes Up Short

Colusa extended their losing streak to three on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 15-5 in the process. They came up short against the Foothill Cougars, falling 8-0. Considering the last time the RedHawks couldn't score was back in March, the team can't take the result too hard.

As for Foothill, their record now sits at 16-5-1. The result was nothing new for the Cougars, who have now won eight matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

For Foothill's part, Elisea Wiegand made a splash no matter where she played. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out nine over five innings pitched. Wiegand has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Sophie Hooks, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI and one triple. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Alexa Francis, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Coming up, Colusa will challenge Truckee at 2:40 p.m. on Saturday. The RedHawks' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Wolverines have averaged an impressive 8.8 runs per game this season. As for Foothill, they will face off against Red Bluff at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
