Basketball Recap: Platte County Comes Up Short

Platte County lost to Smithville last Friday and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Pirates fell 45-36 to the Warriors. While losing is never fun, the Pirates can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Missouri basketball rankings (they are ranked 356th, while the Warriors are ranked 59th).

Smithville's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was AJ Mason, who posted seven points and six assists. Mason is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in each of the last four games he's played. Caiden Praiswater was another key player, putting up 14 points and six boards.

Platte County dropped their record down to 3-10 with the loss, which was their sixth straight on the road. As for Smithville, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 13-3.

Platte County will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Fort Osage at 7:00 p.m. on February 3. As for Smithville, they will square off against Raytown South at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Warriors will need to watch out since the Cardinals have now posted at least 55 points in their last four contests.
