Basketball Recap: Sandia Prep Find Success

Sandia Prep proved they can win big last Saturday (they won by 50) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They skirted past the Legacy Academy Silverbacks 52-50. For the Sundevils, this counts as revenge for the 60-45 win the Silverbacks walked away with the last time they faced one another back in January of 2024.

Several Silverbacks players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Daniel Tavarez, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 17 boards. Those 17 rebounds gave Tavarez a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Landon Gates, who went 6 of 11 on his way to 12 points.

Sandia Prep's victory bumped their record up to 6-7. As for Legacy Academy, their loss ended a six-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 9-5.

Sandia Prep has already played their next matchup, a 68-40 defeat against Albuquerque Academy on the 16th. As for Legacy Academy, they will challenge Oak Grove Classical Academy at 3:00 p.m. on Monday. Legacy Academy is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54.5 points per game this season.
