Volleyball Game Preview: Center Cougars vs. Mira Loma Matadors

The Center Cougars will head out on the road to square off against the Mira Loma Matadors at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.

Last Wednesday, Center didn't have quite enough to beat Wheatland and fell 3-2. The defeat continues a trend for the Cougars in their meetings with the Pirates: they've now lost five in a row.

Center wouldn't go down easily and took Wheatland into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking four-point loss. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 21-25, 25-14, 25-10, 22-25, 15-11.

Despite the loss, Center got top-tier performance from Ethan Lee, who had 24 digs and two assists. Lee is on a roll when it comes to digs, as he's now had 12 or more in each of the last three games he's played.

Meanwhile, Mira Loma came up short against Bear River on Wednesday, falling 3-0. The Matadors have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

The defeat didn't mean the game wasn't competitive: Bear River scored at least 17 points in every set. The match finished with set scores of 25-19, 25-17, 25-21.

Mira Loma's loss dropped their record down to 2-7. As for Center, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-14.

Center skirted past Mira Loma 3-2 in their previous matchup back in March. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cougars since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
