Softball Game Preview: Caldwell Redskins vs. Buckeye Trail Warriors

The Caldwell Redskins will take on the Buckeye Trail Warriors at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The timing is sure in Caldwell's favor as the team sits on three straight wins at home while Buckeye Trail has been banged up by five consecutive losses on the road.

Caldwell is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They were the clear victors by a 17-7 margin over River on Monday. The Redskins might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matchups by eight runs or more this season.

Meanwhile, Buckeye Trail fell victim to Strasburg-Franklin and their airtight pitching crew on Monday. They came up short against the Tigers, falling 9-0.

Gwen McElwain spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and seven unearned) runs on seven hits.

At the plate, Lindsey Smith was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base and one double. That double was her first of the season.

Caldwell has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.1 runs over those games. As for Buckeye Trail, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-11.

Caldwell beat Buckeye Trail 7-2 when the teams last played back in March of 2023. Will the Redskins repeat their success, or do the Warriors have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
