Basketball Game Preview: Discovery Canyon Thunder vs. Air Academy Kadets

The Discovery Canyon Thunder will take on the Air Academy Kadets at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Discovery Canyon has 11 straight wins, Air Academy has five straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

Discovery Canyon is headed into the match after thoroughly thrashing Palmer Ridge: they outscored them in every quarter. Discovery Canyon put the hurt on Palmer Ridge with a sharp 70-44 victory on Thursday. The Thunder have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five games by 26 points or more this season.

Discovery Canyon got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Mitchell Vorwaller out in front who went 7 of 10 en route to 20 points along with five assists and five boards. Those 20 points gave Vorwaller a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Micah Rohacs, who went 8 for 12 on his way to 20 points and seven rebounds.

Discovery Canyon smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Palmer Ridge only pulled down four offensive rebounds.

Meanwhile, Air Academy played a tough contest on Thursday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were dealt a 65-37 defeat at the hands of Lewis-Palmer. The Kadets were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 34-10.

Discovery Canyon pushed their record up to 11-1 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 22.5 points. As for Air Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 2-8.

Discovery Canyon skirted past Air Academy 50-48 in their previous meeting back in January of 2024. Will Discovery Canyon repeat their success, or does Air Academy have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
