Basketball Recap: West Shore Comes Up Short

West Shore came up into this matchup off a tough 34-point defeat last Tuesday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of the Eau Gallie Commodores by a score of 43-40 on Thursday. The Wildcats have struggled against the Commodores recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive lost matchup.

Despite the loss, West Shore saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Kaelani Luther went 7 of 16 on her way to 20 points and six steals. That was a full 50% of West Shore's points, marking the third time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Emily Marshall, who earned six points and six rebounds.

West Shore's defeat dropped their record down to 2-9. As for Eau Gallie, the win snapped their losing streak at 12 games and leaves them with a 2-12 record.

West Shore will square off against Melbourne Central Catholic at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Eau Gallie, they and Cocoa will face off at 7:00 p.m. on Friday without much rest having both just played. Cocoa will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something Eau Gallie surely won't give up without a fight.
