Basketball Recap: Turner Lions vs. Newman Smith Trojans

The Turner Lions's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their tenth straight defeat. They were outmatched by Newman Smith at home and fell 76-46. While losing is never fun, Turner can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 694th, while the Trojans are ranked 114th).

When it comes to explaining why Turner lost, one person who can't be blamed is Rodney Gray. Despite the final result, he scored 18 points along with four steals. Gray has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Sahil Anand, who scored ten points.

Turner has not been sharp recently as the team's lost 11 of their last 14 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 15-13 record this season. As for Newman Smith, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 17-8 record this season.

Turner will head out on the road to square off against the Rangers at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Lone Star will be looking to extend their current 17-game winning streak. As for Newman Smith, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Mustangs at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
