Baseball Game Preview: Manassas Park Cougars vs. Fauquier Falcons

Manassas Park is 0-9 against Fauquier since April of 2016 but things could change on Monday. The Cougars will face off against the Falcons at 6:00 p.m. Manassas Park will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each matchup than the last.

Manassas Park lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Osbourn, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Thursday's contest. The Cougars put the hurt on the Eagles with a sharp 16-6 win on Thursday. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Cougars as it put an end to their eight-game losing streak.

Minh Huynh was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits (and only one walk). He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Manassas Park is 3-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 0-9 otherwise. Huynh was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Carlos Castillo Aviles, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in hits (two). Another player making a difference was Xavier Tickle, who went 3-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.

Manassas Park kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive games.

Fauquier might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 8-2 to Kettle Run, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. The Falcons have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Fauquier's defeat dropped their record down to 9-7. As for Manassas Park, their record is now 3-10.

Manassas Park suffered a grim 15-0 defeat to Fauquier in their previous meeting back in April. Can the Cougars avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
