Baseball Game Preview: Loyola College Prep Flyers vs. Converse Wildcats

The Loyola College Prep Flyers will square off against the Converse Wildcats at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Loyola College Prep will bounce into Saturday's matchup after beating Minden, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. Loyola College Prep skirted past Minden 2-1. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Flyers.

Gavin Brint spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits and racked up nine Ks. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in February.

At the plate, Loyola College Prep saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was John Luke Lauve, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI.

Meanwhile, Converse came into Thursday's contest having lost four straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They came out on top against Oak Hill by a score of 4-1 on Thursday.

Converse also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and he was also dialed-in: Mavrick Mitchell gave up only one earned run on six hits. Mitchell has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.

Converse's win bumped their record up to 10-13. As for Loyola College Prep, their victory bumped their record up to 18-7-1.

Loyola College Prep took their win against Converse in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 10-0. Will Loyola College Prep repeat their success, or does Converse has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
