Basketball Recap: Rio Rico Extends Winning Streak to Two

Rio Rico won the last time they faced Cholla, and Angelina Whelan did her part to make sure it happened again. The Rio Rico Hawks blew past the Cholla Chargers 77-5 on Wednesday thanks in part to Whelan, who posted 14 points in addition to seven rebounds and six steals. She is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played.

Amber Nerey was another key player, putting up six points along with 11 assists and six steals. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in assists.

The victory made it two in a row for Rio Rico and bumps their season record up to 12-9. As for Cholla, they are on a 25-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-16.

Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Amphitheater the next time they take the court. Cholla will head out to face Amphitheater at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, while Rio Rico will host them at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
