Softball Recap: Skyline Spartans vs. Lake Washington Kangaroos
While Skyline didn't have the best season last year (they finished 11-14), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They blew past the Lake Washington Kangaroos 13-5 on Friday. Considering the Spartans' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.
Abby Haapala looked comfortable as she struck out seven batters over 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Those zero hits allowed gave her a new career-low.
At the plate, Skyline got a massive performance out of Nazli Chavez, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Julia Marquez, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one double.
Skyline always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .595. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lake Washington only posted an OBP of .387.
Skyline's win bumped their record up to 6-2. As for Lake Washington, they are on a nine-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-7.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Skyline will face off against Ballard at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Skyline's pitchers better be ready for this one: Ballard has averaged an impressive 8.9 runs per game this season. As for Lake Washington, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Juanita at 5:45 p.m.
