Softball Recap: Poly Wins Going Away Against Hemet

Poly barely beat Hemet the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Bears put the hurt on the Bulldogs with a sharp 15-1 win on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Bears, who have now won seven games by six runs or more so far this season.

Marley Audoma spent all five innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on six hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Brookelyn Duerfeldt was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Katelyn Cortez, who scored a run while going 2-for-5.

Poly always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .526. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hemet only posted an OBP of .273.

Poly pushed their record up to 15-6-1 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Hemet, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 14-6 record this season.

Poly wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 16-1 victory against Paloma Valley on the 15th. As for Hemet, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, an 8-0 loss against Orange Vista on the 14th.
