With a deep run in the state playoffs, Myles McLaughlin of Knox (Ind.) could finish with close to 80 total touchdowns on the season. If he does so, the Indiana quarterback could join the company of a number of current NFL quarterbacks who had similar stat lines in their prep days.

MaxPreps has compiled a list of all high school players who have accounted for 65 or more touchdowns – passing, rushing and receiving – in a single season. The list is the latest addition to the MaxPreps National High School Football Record Book.

A number of starting quarterbacks in the NFL are among the 157 players to make the list, including Patrick Mahomes, Jaxson Dart, Kyler Murray, Jayden Daniels, Bryce Young, Joe Burrow and Brock Purdy. Among those players, Dart has the highest total with 79 touchdowns after throwing 67 touchdowns and rushing for 12 his senior year at Corner Canyon (Draper, Utah) in 2020.

Murray is second out of the group with 78, including 54 passing and 24 rushing at Allen (Texas) in 2014. Daniels of Cajon (San Bernardino, Calif.) appears on the list twice with 77 touchdowns (62 passing, 15 rushing) in 2017 and 76 (60, 16) in 2018.

Young of Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.) comes in next out of the group with 69 (58, 11) in 2019 while Burrows of Athens (The Plains, Ohio) had 68 (63, 5) in 2014. Purdy of Perry (Gilbert, Ariz.) had 67 (57, 10) in 2017 and Mahomes had 65 (50, 15) in 2013 at Whitehouse (Texas).

Jake Browning, a backup quarterback with the Cincinnati Bengals, holds the all-time record with 97 total touchdowns while at Folsom (Calif.). In 2014, he tied the national record with 91 touchdown passes in 2014 and he also ran for five touchdowns and caught a touchdown pass. Browning also makes the list two more times with 81 touchdowns (77, 6) in 2013, and 65 touchdowns (63, 2) in 2012. Dylan Hair of Blair Oaks (Jefferson City, Mo.) also makes the list three times, scoring 73 (43, 30) in 2022, 68 (43, 25) in 2020 and 65 (28, 37) in 2021.

Folsom has seven different entries on the list while Kenton (Ohio) and Pulaski Academy (Little Rock, Ark.) each have five.

McLaughlin is the current national leader in total offense touchdowns with 47 total touchdowns, 45 on the ground and two passing.
