Tallmadge has gone a perfect 7-0 against Barberton recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Blue Devils will square off against the Magics at 5:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Tallmadge has four straight wins, Barberton has eight straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
On Thursday, Tallmadge beat Manchester 7-4.
Larissa Taylor looked comfortable as she struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 15 consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Tallmadge let Leila Staszak and Naomi Richardson run wild. Staszak went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs, while Richardson went 3-for-4 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI. Those two doubles gave Richardson a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Payton Almond, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
Tallmadge was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .387. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .387 or higher in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Barberton didn't have quite enough to beat Cuyahoga Falls on Thursday and fell 3-2.
Cassie Moore spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three runs (all of which were unearned) on one hit and racked up 15 Ks.
At the plate, Barberton saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Maia Taylor, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.
Tallmadge's record now sits at 11-7. As for Barberton, their loss dropped their record down to 4-13.
Barberton's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Tallmadge hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .390. It's a different story for Barberton, though, as they've only averaged .213. Will they be able to contain Tallmadge's hitters?
Tallmadge took their victory against Barberton in their previous meeting back in April by a conclusive 18-2 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Blue Devils since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
