Softball Game Preview: United South Panthers vs. Alexander Bulldogs

The United South Panthers will take on the Alexander Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

United South was handed a 14-run loss in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Friday. They had just enough and edged out Laredo LBJ 12-10. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Panthers' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.

Samarah Martinez and Janae Palacios did most of the damage at the plate: Martinez scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4, while Palacios scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Those three hits gave Martinez a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Andrea Guerrero, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-5.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Alexander). They blew past United 18-12 on Friday. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Bulldogs as it put an end to their four-game losing streak.

Alexander's victory bumped their record up to 7-15. As for United South, they now have a winning record of 12-11-1.

United South took their win against Alexander when the teams last played back in February by a conclusive 11-2. Will United South repeat their success, or does Alexander has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
