Basketball Recap: Bennington Badgers vs. Platteview Trojans
After losing to Platteview the last time they met, Bennington decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Bennington Badgers greeted the New Year with with a 61-44 victory over the Platteview Trojans.
Bennington got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Blaize Jung out in front who went 6 of 8 on his way to 15 points and five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Gavin Olson, who posted 12 points and three steals.
Elijah Steele and Owen Trofholz certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Steele went 5 of 10 on his way to 14 points, while Trofholz had ten points and three blocks. Steele continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Sully Vanosdall, who put up five points and five rebounds.
The victory got Bennington back to even at 4-4. As for Platteview, their defeat ended a six-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 7-3.
Bennington and Platteview should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Nebraska Rankings. Bennington (ranked 35th) will meet Blair (ranked 178th) at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Bennington is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 61.6 points per game this season. Similarly, Platteview (ranked 39th) will meet Roncalli Catholic (ranked 126th) at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
