Basketball Recap: Pacific Collegiate Comes Up Short

Pacific Collegiate was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They lost 77-55 to the St. Francis Sharks. While losing is never fun, the Pumas can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1333rd, while the Sharks are ranked 659th).

When it comes to explaining why Pacific Collegiate lost, don't look at Garrett Koontz. Despite the final result, he posted 27 points. With that strong performance, Koontz is now averaging an impressive 16.4 points per game. Ian Bulfin was another key player, putting up 11 points.

Pacific Collegiate's defeat dropped their record down to 2-8. As for St. Francis, the win (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 15-3.

Pacific Collegiate will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on North Salinas at 7:00 p.m. on February 3rd. As for St. Francis, they will head out to face off against King City at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. St. Francis knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past eight matches -- so hopefully King City likes a good challenge.
