Basketball Recap: Sage Walker Key Part of Team Effort in Mustangs Win

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Mountain Crest walked away with it. They enjoyed a cozy 53-34 win over the Bear River Bears on Tuesday. The Mustangs haven't had any issues with the Bears recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Mountain Crest to victory, but perhaps none more so than Sage Walker, who almost dropped a double-double with 14 points and nine rebounds. The dominant performance also gave Walker a new career-high in steals (three). Another player making a difference was Leighton Pratt, who posted six points in addition to seven boards and five steals.

Mountain Crest smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bear River only pulled down eight offensive boards.

When it comes to explaining why Bear River lost, don't look at Brooklyn Capener. Despite the final result, she had eight points along with seven rebounds and four steals. Aubree Fry also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.

Mountain Crest pushed their record up to 15-9 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.0 points over those games. As for Bear River, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six matches, which has put a noticeable dent in their 5-18 record this season.

Coming up, Mountain Crest will challenge Desert Hills at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Mountain Crest is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54.9 points per game this season. Bear River does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
