Basketball Recap: Howland Comes Up Short

Howland was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They fell 55-43 to the Chaney Cowboys. While losing is never fun, the Tigers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 331st, while the Cowboys are ranked 141st).

When it comes to explaining why Howland lost, don't look at Anthony Chieffo. Despite the final result, he went 6-for-9 on his way to 17 points. Howland is 2-1 when Chieffo posts 15 or more points, but 6-12 otherwise. Steven Bubon was another key player, putting up six points.

Howland's defeat dropped their record down to 8-13. As for Chaney, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 12-8.

Coming up, Howland will square off against Alliance at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Howland is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50 points per game this season. As for Chaney, they will face off against Harding at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Chaney is on a four-game streak of home wins, Harding a five-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court.
