Softball Recap: Westlake Comes Up Short

If Westlake was riding high fresh off their 13-2 takedown of Orem last Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Westlake Thunder fell just short of the Herriman Mustangs by a score of 10-9 on Wednesday. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Thunder, who until this matchup were averaging four runs allowed.

Madison Buckley and Ryan Pead did some serious damage despite the final result: Buckley scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3, while Pead went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. Buckley also hit a triple, marking her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Claire DuBois, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.

They weren't the only ones working in the hit department: Westlake kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in three consecutive contests.

The defeat was their first on the road , dropping their record down to 5-2. As for Herriman, the victory got them back to even at 4-4.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Westlake will face off against West at 3:30 p.m. on March 19th. As for Herriman, they will challenge Davis at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. Davis' pitching crew has only allowed 3.4 runs per game this season, so Herriman's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
