The Whitney Wildcats will head out on the road to challenge the Oak Ridge Trojans at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Whitney comes in on four and Oak Ridge on six.
Whitney will roll into the game after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up six points on Thursday, then bounced right back against Menlo-Atherton on Saturday. The Wildcats blew past the Bears 39-7. Considering the Wildcats have won eight matchups by more than 19 points this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Whitney found their leader in sophomore Lulu Im, who threw for 212 yards and four touchdowns while completing 71.9% of her passes, and also rushed for 64 yards.
On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Whitney's defense and their ten sacks. Kayla Mougeotte led the group effort, picking up three of those sacks all by herself.
Meanwhile, Oak Ridge never let their opponents score on Thursday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Granite Bay 33-0. 33 seems to be a good number for the Trojans as the team scooped up a win with the same number of points in their previous game.
Whitney better keep an eye on Maya Scipio. She was instrumental in Oak Ridge's win, throwing for 206 yards and four TDs, while also rushing for 32 yards and one score. Those 32 rushing yards gave Scipio a new career-high.
Oak Ridge didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Granite Bay to a completion percentage of just 44.4%. That dominant aerial defense primarily came from two players: Luci Lampe and Addison Hemans, who each logged one passes deflected. Oak Ridge wasn't nearly as limited: they posted one of 52.6%.
Oak Ridge didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Laurel Smart, Rachel Groth, and Siena Maher picked up one apiece.
Whitney's record is now 9-4. As for Oak Ridge, their record now sits at 10-1.
Whitney took a serious blow against Oak Ridge in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, falling 35-6. Can the Wildcats avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
