Baseball Game Preview: Northeast Guilford Rams vs. Rockingham County Cougars

Northeast Guilford is 1-9 against Rockingham County since April of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Rams will venture away from home to square off against the Cougars at 6:30 p.m. Northeast Guilford is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.2 runs per game this season.

Northeast Guilford had taken Dudley down for two straight games at home, but that winning streak came to an end last Wednesday. The Rams fell 6-1 to the Panthers. The Rams have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Josh Jones put in work while hitting and pitching. He pitched three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit. Northeast Guilford is 2-1 when Jones allows one or fewer earned runs, but 7-10 otherwise. Jones was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with three stolen bases.

In other batting news, Caiden McNeil and Damir Woolridge did some serious damage despite the final result: McNeil got on base in two of his three plate appearances with three stolen bases and one run, while Woolridge went a perfect 1-for-1 with three stolen bases. McNeil is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged two or more in each of the last three games he's played.

Meanwhile, Rockingham County unfortunately witnessed the end of their 16-game winning streak on Monday. They took a 6-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of West Forsyth.

Rockingham County's defeat dropped their record down to 17-2. As for Northeast Guilford, their loss dropped their record down to 9-11.

Tuesday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Northeast Guilford hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .339. However, it's not like Rockingham County struggles in that department as they've averaged .374. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Northeast Guilford might still be hurting after the 14-0 defeat they got from Rockingham County when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Rams avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
