Basketball Recap: Westwood Takes a Loss

Westwood lost against Okeechobee back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Westwood Panthers were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 38-37 to the Okeechobee Brahmans.

Despite the loss, Westwood had strong showings from Jordan Crutchfield, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 16 boards, and Keith Seme, who posted 11 points in addition to five rebounds and three steals. Crutchfield is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down ten or more in the last 28 games he's played dating back to last season. Marquan Burgess was another key player, putting up two points along with five assists, five boards, and four steals.

Even though they lost, Westwood smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Okeechobee only pulled down nine offensive boards.

Okeechobee's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Wyatt Phillips, who scored nine points. The dominant performance also gave Phillips a new career-high in blocks (two). Another player making a difference was Oliver Saunders, who put up eight points and five rebounds.

Westwood's defeat was their seventh straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 10-11. As for Okeechobee, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 12-8.

Westwood wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 67-46 win against Somerset College Prep Academy on the 23rd. Okeechobee has also already played their next game, a 61-37 victory against John Carroll Catholic on the 24th.
