Basketball Recap: Freeport Piles Up the Points Against Laurel Hill

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Freeport). They took their game on Tuesday with ease, bagging a 100-65 victory over the Laurel Hill Hoboes. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.

Freeport was led to victory by Julius Miles and Dameyan Martin. Miles dropped a double-double on 39 points and 15 rebounds, while Martin dropped a double-double on 24 points and ten boards. Miles' evening made it eight games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Michael Taylor was another key player, putting up 12 points.

Freeport smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've posted since back in December of 2023.

The victory made it two in a row for Freeport and bumps their season record up to 5-3. As for Laurel Hill, their defeat was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-9.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Freeport and Rocky Bayou Christian will compete for holiday cheer at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. That matchup will pit two of the most dominant forwards against one another: Miles and Harrison Sanders. As for Laurel Hill, they will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on North Bay Haven Academy at 6:30 p.m. on January 6, 2025.
