Baseball Game Preview: Hazen Highlanders vs. Liberty Patriots

Hazen is 2-8 against Liberty since June of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Highlanders will host the Patriots at 8:00 p.m.

Wednesday just wasn't the day for Hazen's offense. They lost 10-0 to Bothell on Wednesday. The Highlanders' defeat continues a trend for the team, making it three in a row.

Hazen saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ian Westendorf, who went 1-for-2 with one double.

Meanwhile, Liberty came into Wednesday's matchup having lost five straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They came out on top against Mercer Island by a score of 5-1 on Wednesday.

Ryan Boehm spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on one hit and racked up nine Ks.

At the plate, Connor Mayer was excellent, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. Griffin Ellsworth was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI.

Liberty's victory bumped their record up to 6-13. As for Hazen, their loss dropped their record down to 6-12.

Hazen skirted past Liberty 3-1 when the teams last played on April 4th. Will the Highlanders repeat their success, or do the Patriots have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
