Baseball Game Preview: Hornell Red Raiders vs. Geneseo Blue Devils

The Hornell Red Raiders will venture away from home to face off against the Geneseo Blue Devils at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Hornell comes in still looking for their first win of the season.

Hornell fell victim to Palmyra-Macedon and their airtight pitching crew on Wednesday. They lost 11-0 to Palmyra-Macedon. The contest marked the first time this season in which Hornell was not able to get on the board.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Geneseo). They were the clear victors by a 21-3 margin over Mount Morris on Wednesday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.

Geneseo got a massive performance out of Brady O'Brien, who went 4-for-5 with one home run, four runs, and one triple. Geneseo is 4-1 when O'Brien posts two or more runs, but 1-3 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Tyler Churchfield, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Geneseo kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are 3-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

Geneseo has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games. As for Hornell, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-6.

Hornell couldn't quite get it done against Geneseo in their previous matchup back in April of 2019 as they fell 3-0. Can the Red Raiders avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
