Recap: Banks County Leopards vs. Athens Academy Spartans
The Banks County Leopards''s recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They were beaten by Athens Academy 56-27. While losing is never fun, Banks County can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia football rankings (they are ranked 268th, while Athens Academy is ranked 127th).
Banks County's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Aaron Scott, who rushed for 282 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 13.4 yards per carry, and Aucy Jacobs who rushed for 214 yards and two touchdowns. Scott was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 67 yards.
Athens Academy was led to victory by Hampton Johnson and Jeremiah Wingfield. Johnson threw for 264 yards and three touchdowns on only 17 passes, while Wingfield rushed for 118 yards and two touchdowns. Noah Prior was another key contributor, gaining 74 total yards and two touchdowns.
Banks County now has a losing record at 4-5. As for Athens Academy, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 5-4 record this season.
Banks County will be playing in front of their home fans against Fellowship Christian at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Fellowship Christian has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 180 points over their last three matchups. As for Athens Academy, they will head out on the road to face off against Union County at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The pair might be coming in a bit winded given how much these teams ran in their prior games.
