Football Game Preview: La Mirada Matadores vs. Downey Vikings + Official Tickets

La Mirada is 0-5 against Downey since November of 2018 but things could change on Friday. The Matadores will head out to square off against the Vikings at 7:00 p.m.

On Friday, La Mirada ended up a good deal behind Warren and lost 27-13.

Although La Mirada took the loss, they still got scores from Ace Faagata and Ismael Garcia.

Meanwhile, Downey strolled past Mayfair with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 33-14. Given the Vikings' advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 48th, while the Monsoons are ranked 365th) , the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

La Mirada better keep an eye on Oscar Rios. He was instrumental in Downey's win, throwing for 243 yards and two TDs, while also rushing for 42 yards.

Downey pushed their record up to 5-1 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 30.7 points over those games. As for La Mirada, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-4.

La Mirada took a serious blow against Downey when the teams last played back in October of 2024, falling 45-7. Can the Matadores avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
