Baseball Recap: Marathon's Luck Changes for the Better on Friday

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Immaculata-La Salle, Marathon was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They came out on top against the Master's Academy Patriots by a score of 5-1. The victory was some much needed relief for the Dolphins as it spelled an end to their four-game losing streak.

Gabriele Cirina made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 12 over seven innings pitched. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in ten consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in February.

Cirina wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Curren Nicolay, who went 2-for-3 with one run. Those two hits gave Nicolay a new career-high.

Marathon's win bumped their record up to 11-7-1. As for Master's Academy, they dropped their record down to 6-11 with the loss, which was their seventh straight on the road.

Looking ahead, Marathon will welcome Coral Shores at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Master's Academy, they will head out to take on Lincoln Park Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
