Basketball Game Preview: Eagle River Wolves vs. Kenai Central Kardinals

The Eagle River Wolves will face off against the Kenai Central Kardinals at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Eagle River is headed into the game out to prove that what happened against West Anchorage last Tuesday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Eagle River was beaten by West Anchorage 54-21. The Wolves were down 42-9 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

The losing side was boosted by Gabby Palazzini, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 24 boards. That was a full 57.1% of Eagle River's points, marking the fifth time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points. Alysia Reyna also deserves some recognition as she scored her first point of the season.

Meanwhile, Kenai Central strolled past Homer with points to spare on Tuesday, taking the game 61-46. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Kardinals.

Eagle River now has a losing record at 2-3. As for Kenai Central, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 6-5 record this season.

Eagle River came up short against Kenai Central in their previous matchup back in January of 2022, falling 23-17. Can Eagle River avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
