Football Recap: Canutillo Falls Despite Big Games from Jarid Gamiz and Cesar Huerta

Canutillo was the 67-7 winner over Hanks when they last played one another back in October of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Eagles fell 35-28 to the Knights on Friday. The Eagles have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Canutillo's loss came despite strong showings from Cesar Huerta and Jarid Gamiz. Huerta rushed for 127 yards and a pair of TDs on only 12 carries, while Gamiz rushed for 150 yards and one touchdown while picking up 8.3 yards per carry. Huerta also punched in two rushing touchdowns, which is notable because the Eagles are 2-1 when he posts at least two rushing touchdowns, but 2-3 otherwise.

Hanks got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Jordan Morales out in front who threw for 381 yards and a pair of touchdowns while picking up 12.7 yards per attempt, and also punched in two scores on the ground. Those 381 passing yards gave Morales a new career-high. Alex Robles was Morales' top target, picking up 221 receiving yards and a pair of TDs.

Canutillo's defeat dropped their record down to 4-4. As for Hanks, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 5-3.

Canutillo has already played their next contest, a 56-0 victory against Horizon on the 31st. As for Hanks, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 35-0 win against Jefferson on the 31st.
