Baseball Game Preview: La Cueva Bears vs. Los Lunas Tigers

The La Cueva Bears will take on the Los Lunas Tigers at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with La Cueva sitting on six straight victories and Los Lunas on four.

La Cueva is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of New Mexico's top teams: Eldorado, who was ranked sixth at the time (La Cueva was ranked first). The Bears put the hurt on the Golden Eagles with a sharp 11-1 win on Saturday. Considering the Bears have won 11 matchups by more than six runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Meanwhile, Los Lunas made easy work of Albuquerque on Friday and carried off a 12-5 victory. With that win, the Tigers brought their scoring average up to 6.3 runs per game.

Kaiden Reese made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched four innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, JJ Utash was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March. Allen Galaviz was another key player, going 2-for-4 with four RBI.

Los Lunas was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .394. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

La Cueva's victory was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 16-3. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.8 runs over those games. As for Los Lunas, their victory bumped their record up to 12-7.

La Cueva was able to grind out a solid win over Los Lunas when the teams last played back in March, winning 8-4. Do the Bears have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Tigers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
