Softball Recap: Lake Braddock Wins Going Away Against Hayfield

Lake Braddock was handed a heart-breaking two-run loss in their last matchup, but they sure didn't let that happen against Hayfield on Wednesday. Lake Braddock put the hurt on Hayfield with a sharp 11-5 win. For the Bruins, this counts as revenge for the 2-1 victory the Hawks walked away with the last time they faced one another back in May of 2015.

Mac Verdejo made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-4. Those stolen bases marked the first that she snagged this season.

In other batting news, Radha Samuel and Hailey Hackbarth did most of the damage at the plate: Samuel scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3, while Hackbarth went 2-for-3 with four RBI, two doubles, and one run. Samuel is on a roll when it comes to hits, as she's now got three or more in each of the last three games she's played. Addison Forde was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.

Lake Braddock kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive contests.

Lake Braddock now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Hayfield, their defeat ended a six-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 3-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lake Braddock will venture away from home to face off against Woodson at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Lake Braddock is facing Woodson at the right time seeing as Woodson is stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for Hayfield, they will take on Annandale at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
