Basketball Recap: Laurie Julot's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Middleton over Gaither

Middleton fought the good fight in their overtime match against Gaither on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Gaither Cowboys by a score of 38-36. The Tigers were not able to make up for their loss to the Cowboys from their previous meeting back in January of 2024.

Middleton's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Laurie Julot, who posted ten points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals. Julot is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 11 games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Thea Williams, who had ten points.

Even though they lost, Middleton smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in 26 consecutive games dating back to last season.

Gaither's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kai White, who scored eight points and eight boards. The dominant performance gave White a new career-high in points. Chyann Herring was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on nine points and 11 rebounds.

Middleton's loss dropped their record down to 10-8. As for Gaither, they now have a winning record of 12-11.

Middleton didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 42-37 victory against Plant City on the 30th. As for Gaither, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 50-8 defeat against Wharton on the 30th.
