Softball Recap: Garfield Takes Down West Seattle in a Playoff Battle

It's playoff time, and Garfield had no trouble coming through when it counted. They put the hurt on West Seattle with a sharp 17-1 victory on Wednesday. Considering the Bulldogs have won 17 matchups by more than six runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Garfield got a great performance from Sammy Breckenridge as she struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit (and not a single walk). Breckenridge has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Jordana King was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Sarah Lessig, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI.

Garfield was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .483. They are 18-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Garfield is on a roll lately: they've won 15 of their last 19 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-6 record this season. As for West Seattle, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-13.

Looking ahead, Garfield will square off against Seattle Prep at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Bulldogs are facing the Panthers at the right time seeing as the Panthers are stuck on a four-game losing streak. West Seattle does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
