Recap: South Mountain Jaguars vs. Mountain Pointe Pride
The South Mountain Jaguars waltzed into their match Thursday with two straight wins but they left with three. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Mountain Pointe and snuck past 48-46. This was payback for South Mountain, who suffered a 49-17 loss the last time these two teams met.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead South Mountain to victory, but perhaps none more so than Asia Martin, who scored 28 points along with seven rebounds and five steals. Those 28 points set a new season-high mark for her. The team also got some help courtesy of Bry'ann Wiley, who scored 13 points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
South Mountain's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-4. As for Mountain Pointe, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-7.
South Mountain will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Central at 5:30 p.m. on January 9, 2024. Mountain Pointe won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Foothill at 6:00 p.m. on December 15th. Foothill presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Mountain Pointe in their respective states (Foothill is ranked 54th in Nevada, while Mountain Pointe is ranked 243rd in Arizona).
