Softball Game Preview: North Greene Huskies vs. Greeneville Greene Devils

North Greene hasn't had much luck against Greeneville recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Huskies will head out to challenge the Greene Devils at 5:30 p.m. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

North Greene proved they can win big on Monday (they won by seven) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Cloudland, sneaking past 9-7. The victory continues a trend for the Huskies in their matchups with the Highlanders: they've now won four in a row.

Greeneville came out on top against Cherokee on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run seventh inning. The Greene Devils skirted past the Chiefs 6-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Greene Devils have posted against the Chiefs since April 5, 2022.

Brynlee Jones made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 15 over six innings pitched. Those 15 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kyla Jobe, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played.

Greeneville kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in three consecutive contests.

Greeneville is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-13 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for North Greene, their win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-3.

North Greene suffered a grim 23-10 defeat to Greeneville in their previous meeting on April 4th. Can the Huskies avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
