Baseball Game Preview: Berwick Bulldogs vs. Wyoming Valley West Spartans

Berwick hasn't had much luck against Wyoming Valley West recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Bulldogs will challenge the Spartans at 3:15 p.m. Berwick has given up an average of 8.7 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Berwick is headed into Wednesday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their ninth straight game on Monday. They lost 19-4 to Pittston.

Luke Sult made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run and two RBI. Jake Lisnock was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs.

The home team had won the previous four meetings between Wyoming Valley West and Crestwood, and Crestwood kept the tradition alive. The Spartans fell just short of the Comets by a score of 3-1 on Monday.

Gunner Giza was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits.

On the hitting side, Wyoming Valley West saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Tyler Ruddy, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI. John Richards also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Wyoming Valley West has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-7 record this season. As for Berwick, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-10.
