Piedmont Academy falls despite strong effort from Marissa Holder

Recap: Piedmont Academy Cougars vs. Deerfield-Windsor Knights

The Piedmont Academy Cougars pushed their score all the way to 57 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They lost to Deerfield-Windsor on the road by a decisive 72-57 margin. While losing is never fun, Piedmont Academy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 240th, while Deerfield-Windsor is ranked 111th).

When it comes to explaining why Piedmont Academy lost, one person who can't be blamed is Marissa Holder. Despite the final result, she dropped a triple-double on 22 points, ten rebounds, and 12 assists. Holder scored a full 38.6% of Piedmont Academy's points, the sixth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Teagan Satterfield, who scored 20 points.

Even though they lost, Piedmont Academy were working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Piedmont Academy has fallen quite a ways from their 21-9 record last season and are now at 2-4. As for Deerfield-Windsor, their victory bumped their record up to 6-4.

Piedmont Academy and Robert Toombs Christian Academy will face off at 3:00 p.m. on December 27th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Deerfield-Windsor and Crisp County will face off at 3:00 p.m. on December 21st without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Crisp County is out to stop a three-game streak of losses at home.
