Softball Game Preview: Rivera Raiders vs. Harlingen South Hawks

Rivera hasn't had much luck against Harlingen South recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Rivera Raiders will square off against the Harlingen South Hawks at 6:30 p.m. Rivera has given up an average of 7.5 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.

Rivera is headed into Friday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Tuesday. They lost 12-1 to Weslaco East.

Rivera saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ariel Allen, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one RBI.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Harlingen South). They never let Donna North get on the board and left with an 18-0 victory on Tuesday. The Hawks haven't had any issues with the Chiefs recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive win against them.

Harlingen South's victory was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-4. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.5 runs over those games. As for Rivera, their loss dropped their record down to 4-11.

Rivera might still be hurting after the 16-0 defeat they got from Harlingen South in their previous matchup back in February. Can Rivera avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
