Preview: Newman Greenies vs. Calvary Baptist Academy Cavaliers
The Newman Greenies will square off against the Calvary Baptist Academy Cavaliers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Newman walked away with it. They strolled past the Knights with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 31-15. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Newman.
Newman found their leader in underclassman Jake Randle, who rushed for 115 yards and three touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Calvary Baptist Academy put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They put the hurt on Parkview Baptist with a sharp 49-28 win. The result was nothing new for Calvary Baptist Academy, who have now won ten matches by 21 points or more so far this season.
James Simon was his usual excellent self, rushing for 324 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 14.7 yards per carry. Another player making a difference was Abram Wardell, who threw for 212 yards and three touchdowns while completing 75% of his passes.
Their wins bumped Newman to 10-1 and Episcopal to 9-4.
Newman skirted past Calvary Baptist Academy 31-28 in their previous meeting back in November of 2018. Will Newman repeat their success, or does Calvary Baptist Academy have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
