Softball Recap: Harpursville Takes a Loss

Harpursville extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to nine on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 0-5 in the process. They came up short against the Bainbridge-Guilford Bobcats, falling 13-4. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Hornets of the 27-11 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2023.

As for Bainbridge-Guilford, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 3-3 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.5 runs over those games.

For Bainbridge-Guilford's part, Kate Baciuska made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off one hit. Baciuska has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one hit any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Those hits marked the first that she has got this season.

In other batting news, Alessandra Cafasso was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Danica Park was another key player, going 2-for-5 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Harpursville is set to take on their familiar foe Walton at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Bainbridge-Guilford will face off against rival Sidney at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
