Softball Recap: Northland Pines Comes Up Short

Northland Pines had lost 12 straight at home dating back to last season, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 0-18 to make it 13. They came up short against the Medford Raiders, falling 18-0. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Raiders this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 17-0 back in April.

As for Medford, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 16-6. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games.

For Medford's part, they let Finley Arndt and Chelsea Gebauer run wild. Arndt got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one triple, while Gebauer went 2-for-4 with four runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those four runs gave Gebauer a new career-high. Addison Brahmer was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Northland Pines will head out to square off against Antigo at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Red Robins' pitching crew has only allowed 3.2 runs per game this season, so the Eagles' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Medford, they will head out on the road to take on Fall Creek at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
