Softball Game Preview: Bryan Golden Bears vs. Swanton Bulldogs

Bryan has gone a perfect 4-0 against Swanton recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Golden Bears will take on the Bulldogs at 5:00 p.m. Bryan's pitching crew has only allowed 1.8 runs per game this season, so Swanton's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Bryan easily dispatched Liberty Center on Thursday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Golden Bears fell just short of Elmwood by a score of 3-1 on Saturday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Golden Bears have suffered since April 3rd.

Bryan saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Thea Staten, who went 1-for-3 with one double. Ana McCoy-Martinez also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.

Edgerton hit Swanton with a four-run first inning on Saturday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. Swanton took a 10-6 hit to the loss column at the hands of Edgerton. The defeat continues a trend for Swanton in their meetings with Edgerton: they've now lost three in a row.

Alexa Faber was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run and three RBI.

Swanton's loss dropped their record down to 7-10. As for Bryan, with the defeat, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 9-3.

Swanton's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Monday. Bryan has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 12.8 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Swanton, though, as they've been averaging only 3.5 strikeouts. Will Bryan keep running through batters, or will the Bulldogs buck the trend?

Bryan took their win against Swanton in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 12-2 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Golden Bears since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
